Wander vibrant markets, sip coffee in tropical courtyards, and taste Creole flavors along the way. Two countries, centuries of history, one extraordinary escape. Your jungle-meets-culture adventure starts here.

Day 1: Historic Architecture, Rich Biodiversity & River Dolphins

Begin your morning immersed in the heart of Paramaribo, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its unique fusion of European architecture and local materials.

Historic Highlights: Walk through the iconic Independence Square (*Onafhankelijkheidsplein*), flanked by the Presidential Palace and the historic wooden buildings of the Lim A Po straat.

Cross the Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge over the Suriname River to Commewijne. This former coffee and cocoa plantation has been beautifully reclaimed by nature.

03:00 PM – 05:00 PM | Commewijne River Dolphin Cruise
Head to the pier (typically at Leonsberg) to board a traditional wooden tent boat for an afternoon on the water.

Wildlife Encounters: Cruise to the confluence of the Suriname and Commewijne rivers to witness the playful Estuarine dolphins (*Sotalia guianensis*) surfacing around the boat.

Sunset & Snacks: Enjoy local snacks (like *barra* or *bakabana*) and a refreshing drink on board as you watch the sun set over the wide river delta, rounding out a packed first day.

Day 2: Cross-Border Expedition to French Guiana

Full Day Tour | Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni**

Departure (approx. 07:30 AM): Depart early from Paramaribo for a scenic, approximately 2.5-hour drive east through the savanna landscape to the border town of Albina.

The Border Crossing: From Albina, take a short, scenic pirogue (wooden canoe) ride across the Marowijne River to clear customs and enter Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, French Guiana.

The Penal Colony History: The centerpiece of the day is a guided tour of the *Camp de la Transportation*, the notorious historic French penal transit camp where prisoners like Henri Charrière (*Papillon*) were processed. Walk through the preserved cell blocks and learn about the harrowing history of the penal system.

French-Caribbean Vibe: Spend the day admiring the distinct French colonial architecture, strolling past the old official residences, and exploring the vibrant local market if visiting on a market day.
