What our travellers are saying about Bio with Wirjo Tours Suriname

Suriname: The Greenest Country in the World

Suriname is known as one of the greenest countries in the world, with approximately 93% of its territory covered by pristine forest. This high percentage of forest cover contributes to Suriname's reputation as a country with abundant natural beauty and biodiversity. The vast forested areas in Suriname provide habitat for a wide range of plant and animal species, making it an important destination for nature enthusiasts and researchers interested in studying biodiversity. The country's commitment to preserving its natural resources is evident in its efforts to promote sustainable development and protect its forests.

Sea turtle Watch

Sea turtles have been visiting the beaches of Suriname since prehistory to lay their eggs. Some of the most significant sea turtle nesting beaches on the Atlantic coast of South America are found in Suriname. Sea turtles are globally at risk of extinction. And even though many in Suriname know this, some still poach and consume sea turtle eggs. As knowledge about the animals is not widespread, most people do not know that only 10 out of 1000 eggs will develop into adult sea turtles.
