Walk through the untouched jungle of palumeu

This village, home to the Trio and Wayana Amer Indians, takes a 75 minute flight from Paramaribo.
These Amerindians are the authentic inhabitants of the Amazon jungle. You will be
accommodated in jungle lodges, set up in the original Amer Iindian style. Climb the Potihill (mountain) and
enjoy the flora and fauna and a picnic on Palawa island. Try shooting with bow and arrow. Enjoy a
boat trip on the Tapanahony River to Mabuka Waterfalls. Visit the fertile plots and learn about
traditional agriculture.

ITINERARY

5 days one way adventure Tour Palumeu
This 5 day basic adventure tour offers a unique experience to nature lovers. We will get to know the Flora and Fauna of the untouched rainforest of south-east Suriname. The dense jungle is the natural habitat for countless animal and plant species. On the way, you pass by friendly and always welcoming Amerindian villages, in the middle of savannas and swamp areas that is part of the tropical rainforest.

Day 1:
You fly from local airport Zorg en Hoop to the airstrip near the Amerindian village Palumeu, approximately 75 minutes by airplane, south from Paramaribo. Upon arrival, you are greeted by our local employees. Jungle Lodge Palumeu has the same name as the adjacent village of the Trio and Wajana Amerindians. After settling into your cabin, our employees take you to the beautiful Palawa Island for a picnic lunch. Afterwards, you can enjoy swimming in the refreshing river water. In the afternoon, we visit the Amerindian village Palumeu with the guide.
We meet a few families in the village and learn more about the current lifestyle and handicrafts of the ancient old inhabitants of the Amazon rainforest. We are proud of the traditional and sustainable aspects of our lodge. Our employees are skilled Trio and Wajana Amerindians, your jungle cabin is built in traditional style and the cool evenings make air-conditioning or a fan unnecessary but you do enjoy the comfort of a mosquito net.
The meals are prepared on wood fire with primarily Surinamese ingredients. For atmospheric lighting at night, solar energy is used. After dinner the guide tells you more about the unique flora and fauna in the area and the Amerindians, the oldest inhabitants of the Amazon forest.

Day 2: 
You are possibly awakened by the morning alarm call of howler monkeys. Today you learn about the tropical rainforest. After breakfast, a dug-out canoe takes you to the starting point for a walk to Potihill, a granite hill which you will climb during this trip. During the trip on the Tapanahony river in the dug-out canoe, the guide tells you more about the flora and fauna underway. You are sure to see various birds such as macaws or parrots and toucans flying over or spot monkeys or an otter. At the top of Potihill, you are well rewarded with a magnificent view over the jungle. Lunch is served at Palumeu. In the afternoon, an experienced bow and arrow shooter will show you the tricks of the trade. It looks easy but hitting the target appears to be a real skill. Try out and see if you are a natural talent. After dinner, the guide gives you more information about the history and unique lifestyle of the Amerindians in the area.

Day 3: 

In the early morning dawn, we float downstream a bit on the river in the dig-out canoe to enjoy the awakening of the jungle in all peacefulness. After breakfast, we take you to the Mabuka rapids by dug-out canoe for a day of true relaxation. You have the opportunity to swim in the river, enjoy a natural massage in the waterfall and relax in a hammock. For active participants there is a walk through the jungle with information about trees, plants and animals along the way. The surroundings make the barbecue lunch an unforgettable experience. At night, the guide takes you
on a boat trip by night on the river to enjoy the sounds of the forest.

Day 4:

In the morning, the guide takes you on a jungle hike. You learn more about the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest. In the afternoon, you can try your hand at padding in a dug-out canoe, swim or relax in a hammock to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and sounds from the tropical rainforest.

Day 5:

In the morning, you visit the village for an extensive walk in the village. Along the way, you have the opportunity to purchase handmade souvenirs. After lunch, you depart again in the small airplane for the return trip to Paramaribo.
