Walk the UNESCO-listed wooden old town, its colonial streets and landmark buildings.

Commewijne plantation & boat trip

Cross the river to the former plantation district for a boat tour past old estates.

Border

Galibi & French Guiana

Visit the Galibi nature reserve on the coast and cross into neighbouring French Guiana.

Jodensavanne & Powakka

Explore the ruins of the historic Jewish settlement of Jodensavanne and the Powakka area.

Nature

Stone Eiland & Brownsberg

Visit Stone Island on the Suriname River, then head up to the Brownsberg plateau for rainforest trails, waterfalls and wildlife.

Interior

Kumalu Dream Island — lodge hopping

Travel by bus from Stone Island to Maroon villages in the interior. Join daily life in a small village — growing vegetables, fishing from the river, and making cassava bread where available. Move on to a second resort to see the powerful Tapawatra falls, climb Ananasberg ("Pineapple mountain") where wild pineapples grow, and take a jungle walk learning about the locals' medicinal use of plants. After four days with the Maroons, travel back to Paramaribo by boat and bus.

Head west to the wetlands of Bigi Pan, one of Suriname's best birdwatching areas, and the Nickerie district.
