Suriname packs more than 700 recorded bird species into a country the size of Georgia (the US state) — and 93% of it is still untouched rainforest. That combination of coastal wetlands, savanna, and deep Amazonian-Guiana Shield forest means a single trip here can move you from scarlet ibis on the mudflats to a Guianan Cock-of-the-Rock lek at dawn, all without ever crossing a border. This 12-day route is built to do exactly that: coast, savanna, two rainforest strongholds, in one loop that starts and ends in Paramaribo.

Best time to go
The short and long dry seasons (roughly February–April and August–November) give the most reliable birding conditions: quieter trails, lower rivers for boat access to the interior lodges, and active lek displays for species like Capuchinbird and Guianan Cock-of-the-Rock. Wet season birding is still productive and the forest is greener, but travel to some interior camps can be slower.
